Injury Impact: Eagles vs Cowboys Report

WR Alshon Jeffery

Other Eagles that ended up on the injury report during the week include CB Ronald Darby (ankle), Zach Ertz (hamstring), and Jaylon Watkins (hamstring) but they all practiced in full throughout the week.

Jeffery is tied for most touchdowns from the Eagles wide receivers after scoring 3 in the last two weeks to bring his total to 5 on the year. Seemingly gaining more chemistry with QB Carson Wentz in recent weeks, it would be an unfortunate setback.

(UPDATE: Jeffery will be active.)

 

In that Jeffery can’t go, it would likely spell more snaps for rookie WR Mack Hollins, who has seen increased snap usage each of the last two weeks (26%, 44%). Hollins has soaked up targets, catching 9 of 10 for 172 yards and a touchdown. WR Marcus Johnson has also seen increased snaps in the last two weeks (30%, 29%) in blowout wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. To date, Johnson has only been targeted 5 times with 2 catches for 22 yards.

I wrote about the loss of Sean Lee with an eye towards the run game (HERE). Despite having missed two games and only taking 8 snaps against the Atlanta Falcons, Lee leads the teams in tackles and tackles for loss and his absence is a huge blow to the Cowboys front seven.

Replacing the 7 for 7 on the season K Bailey, is Mike Nugent, who is 4 for 6 and has missed twice beyond 30 yards since taking over.

If OT Smith is unable to go, he could be replaced by the combination of Chaz Green and Byron Bell that on 46 combined snaps gave up 6 sacks and 12 pressures in the worst offensive line performance in the league this year.

(UPDATE: Smith will not play.)

DT Collins has been ineffective against the run and pass this year and his absence or presence will go equally unnoticed.

If SAF Heath is unable to clear concussion protocol, rookie SAF Xavier Woods will likely fill his role, and could potentially be an upgrade the Cowboys decide to roll with for the remainder of the season. Woods had an INT off a deflection last week and if he can avoid the miscommunication that riddled the Cowboys secondary last week, his future is bright.

 

With the Eagles fairly healthy, at least in regard to the active roster, and the Cowboys severely banged up, the bye should have provided the Eagles with ample time to prepare for a Cowboys team looking for answers.
