Injury Impact: Philadelphia Eagles Inactives

For the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s less important to analyze the entire injury report this week, but it is notable who will not be active for this Week 17 with the Dallas Cowboys. Head Coach Doug Pederson has stressed that starters will play this week, citing the three week bridge between games for those who sit.

INACTIVE

RB Jay Ajayi

DT Timmy Jernigan

DE Brandon Graham

DE Derek Barnett

LB Nigel Bradham

CB Jalen Mills

SAF Rodney McLeod

There’s no surprise that RB Jay Ajayi will get a rest. The Eagles have had him on a pitch count all season, spelling him frequently. The issues with his knee are well documented so him sitting out makes all the sense in the world. It’s also a plus for RB LaGarrette Blount, according to Adam Schefter:

The decision to play DT Fletcher Cox and sit DT Timmy Jernigan is a curious one, especially with enough interior depth to sit both.

Defensive ends Brandon Graham (ankle) and Derek Barnett (groin) have appeared on the injury report lately, so resting them is the right move. Looking forward to seeing what DE Steven Means can bring to the table with more snaps, as he’s only been in on 14 on defense this year.

The Eagles linebacking corp has been shaky with depth all season, with Jordan Hicks and Joe Walker placed on injured reserve, the move to sit LB Nigel Bradham makes sense. LB Dannell Ellerbe played well in his first week of real action last week, keep an eye on his play.

CB Jalen Mills has been dealing with an ankle sprain, so look for more playing time from rookie CB Rasul Douglas. This also clears a path for newly activated CB Sidney Jones to get more snaps. I wrote about Jones yesterday after taking a look back at his college tape (HERE).

SAF Malcolm Jenkins will play, but SAF Rodney McLeod will sit. Not sure the reasoning behind this, but it’s possible McLeod is dealing with some nicks not worth noting on the injury report.

Now the question remains, how much work will the remaining Eagles starters get? This is especially interesting in regard to the Nick Foles-led offense.
